The Philippine Reef and Rainforest Conservation Foundation, Inc. (PRRCFI) is a non-stock, nonprofit corporation duly registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission in the Philippines. It was established to manage and operate the Philippine Reef and Rainforest Project.
PRRCFI was organized to manage the conservation program based on Danjugan Island that was expanded to include Southern Negros Occidental. The initial project of PRRCFI was the Philippine Reef and Rainforest Project (PRRP) that purchased Danjugan Island for conservation. PRRP was initiated with an international fund raising spearheaded with the World Land Trust and the volunteer assisted marine research and survey with the Coral Cay Conservation, both of the United Kingdom.
PRRCFI’s mission of ensuring the long-term conservation of the marine and terrestrial environment of negros Occidental, initially, and elsewhere in the Philippines eventually through education and poverty alleviation has been partially achieved with the Danjugan Island Learning Center and expanded with the installation of 3 MPAs in Southern Negros Occidental that is bounded by the Sulu Sea. The mission will be accomplished through the achievement of the following goals:
- To establish a marine and wildlife research and education center on Danjugan Island;
- To develop and implement education and alternative livelihood programmes for the conservation of marine and other wildlife resources; and
- To assist in the conservation of marine resources of Negros Occidental and other regions of the Philippines.
